Yesterday Cecile took me to see an improvised dance show near the Grand Palais. It's at the end of the tent of this year's modern art market. Cecile works as an agent for the dancer and there's two other musicians, too, a pianist and a flutist. It was incredible how the whole show, which lasted 50 minutes, was all improvised — though as Cecile told me, the artists did have preliminary rehearsals to mark a few important junctures. Dancers call it "rendez-vous". The music was contagious, the dance refreshing. Debussy sounded so in tune with modern techno, and I had no idea one could play with the plain piano cords without pressing the keys — definitely a cool moment.
